Kent McCord, born Kent Franklin McWhirter on September 26, 1942, at French Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, California, had an early start in life, working at his father’s gas station and later at Brackett Field Airport in La Verne, California, where he received flying lessons in exchange for his work. He pursued his education, attending Citrus Junior College and later the University of Southern California, with plans to become a physical education instructor and football coach.
In the early 1960s, Kent crossed paths with notable figures like Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley, which eventually led to roles in popular series and films, including “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” and several Elvis movies.
Kent’s breakthrough came when he signed with Universal Studios, landing roles in series like “Dragnet” and “The Big Explosion.” However, it was his role as Officer Jim Reed in “Adam-12” alongside Martin Milner that solidified his place in television history. The series garnered immense success, running from 1968 to 1975, with 174 episodes.

In his personal life, Kent has been married to his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Lee Doty, since July 14, 1962. The couple shares three children: daughters Kristen and Megan, who followed their father’s footsteps into acting, and a son.
