In the latest episode of Season 25 of “The Voice,” coach Chance the Rapper finds himself in a precarious position as more than one coach contemplates using their “steal” after Maddi Jane and Nadège’s captivating performance.
Even before they sang a note, Maddi and Nadège turned heads with their confident stage presence. Maddi exuded swagger akin to a video game character, prompting Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay to comment, “I would buy the Maddi skin, for sure,” while Nadège rocked a striking outfit with a white tank and black leather pants.Their rendition of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” originally recorded by Frankie Valli in 1967, showcased their modern take on the classic song. The duo’s voices blended seamlessly, earning high praise from both the audience and the coaches.
“That’s my team!” Chance exclaimed as they hit the final note, displaying his pride in his team’s performance. However, fellow coach John Legend jokingly remarked, “I’m sitting here waiting to steal somebody, I’m telling you now,” suggesting that Maddi and Nadège’s performance may lead to some strategic moves from the other coaches.
Dan Smyers, one half of the coaching duo Dan + Shay, emphasized the competitive nature of the show, predicting, “Somebody’s going to use a steal. It may not be your team anymore.” Despite the tension, both Smyers and Mooney had nothing but glowing reviews for Maddi and Nadège, commending their ability to command attention and deliver a standout performance.
Legend, impressed by their performance, turned his chair for both Maddi and Nadège and even challenged Chance to a harmony-off to win over Nadège. Ultimately, Nadège chose to stay on Team Chance, much to Legend’s disappointment.
“I fought for both of you and I’m so jealous that you are not on Team Legend right now,” Legend expressed, acknowledging the unique talents of Maddi and Nadège.
As the pressure mounted, Chance reflected on the talent within his team, praising Nadège for her authenticity and Maddi for her superstar presence and vocal strength. “I feel, like, fulfilled by that performance,” Chance concluded, highlighting the satisfaction he derived from their stellar performance.
